Today is Mental Health Awareness Day
In July, TMZ broke the news that the Disney star Demi Lovato had been rushed to the hospital after an apparent overdose. Ironically, Lovato released a song called “Sober” just a month before the apparent overdose. “Sober” was meant to celebrate the fact that she has been six years sober and dealing with addiction.

Demi is known for speaking out about her mental health. The star has suffered from bipolar disorder and is a huge advocate for mental health care. Lovato has partnered with Getty Images to produce #BeVocalSpeakUp photo collection to show what mental health REALLY looks like.
There’s an unfortunate stigma surrounding mental health that still keeps many people silenced about their own experiences, especially to celebrities. Dianna De La Garza (Lovato’s mother) spoke to Newsmax TV about her experience finding out, seeing Demi for the first time at the hospital, and Demi’s road to recovery.
